‘Silhouette’ is one of the most impressive examples of both how much one person can create at once, and exactly to merge genres convincingly. The accompanying music video shows Rye Milligan setting up electronic beats using loops and a launchpad, before picking up a guitar and accompanying his unique voice with all the nuances of an indie track. Within seconds, he is back at the launchpad creating an addictive, totally contrasting piece of music that wouldn’t be out of place in a club. It’s a truly impressive piece of composition that he explains has been in progress for a long time: “I’ve been tweaking this song’s production on and off for near three years. The actual song fell out in an evening, but the mix, I’ve been working on that for a while. One night when revisiting it, my housemate Alex Ross, the drummer for Luna Bay (the band I’m guitarist for) heard it and liked it. Seeing him excited about my solo music kind of gave me the confidence to get back into it and properly finish the track off”.
